I WOULD like to nominate myself for one of the plates on the Spirit of Sport sculpture, as I play a mean game of darts.
It seems that all you have to do to get your name on this sculpture is be keen on sport, or a parent of someone who is keen.
I thought it was meant to be in memory of sportsmen/women who have done great things within the sports world, and put Bolton on the sporting map. Not someone who is enthusiastic at tae kwondo or enjoys a game of rounders.
Lets not forget that this statue will be up for a long time, hopefully, so when in the future a child asks their parents who one of the names was, they should be able to reply as they would if asked who Nat Lofthouse was.
Why do we feel the need to fill all the plates in one go? Surely there will be sporting heroes of the future that will deserve a place on this sculpture.
