WALSHAW hit the top of the Bolton Association with a devastating derby victory over Elton.

Four-times title winners in the last six seasons, Walshaw are in the mood to win back the championship they lost to their Bury rivals last season.

They showed the quality which has produced a string of successive wins of late with a one-sided five-wicket victory completed with 18 overs to spare.

Pro Jon Fielding started the rout with a tight and clinical bowling spell which brought him six wickets at a cost of just 18 runs.

Sixteen-year-old Alec Roughley showed Walshaw have youth as well as experience in their ranks as he mopped up three of the remaining wickets for 28 runs.

Damian Keegan provided the only serious Elton resistance with a fine 58.

Fielding went on to top score for Walshaw with 54 and in-form Anthony Harris hit a half century as Walshaw completed the job.

With Standish not playing, Darcy Lever climbed up to second, eight points behind Walshaw, with an even quicker victory at Clifton.

Dominic Gavin took 7-37 as the home side were all out for 104, Andrew Griffiths hitting 29.

Darcy needed five overs fewer than Walshaw to finish off their opponents, David Morris unbeaten on 48 when Darcy reached the victory target with seven wickets remaining.

The only bright spot for Clifton was the dismissal of prolific pro Davendra Bundela a rare occurrence in itself - for just 14 runs.

Standish are two points behind Darcy, all having played 12 games then, after a 17-point gap, are Golborne who beat Astley and Tyldesley by 19 runs. Rob Turnbull top scored with 69 and Graham Marsden hit 44 as Golborne set a beatable target of 165-9, Suresh Raina taking 3-50.

Marsden then produced the goods with the ball, taking 3-29, and in-form captain Dale Tyrer took 5-84 as A&T wasted a fine opportunity to win by collapsing to 146 all out.

At one stage they only needed 17 to win with four wickets and plenty of overs remaining. Matt Cutt top scored with 39.

Lostocks suffering continued with Daisy Hill romping to a 190-run victory.

Hill set the bottom club a daunting task with 251-7, of which Quassir Abbas hit 80 and pro Faisal Alfredi scored 57.

Lostocks hard working pro, Pervez Suma, took 5-86 before his team were all out for 61 with more brilliant bowling from Alfredi who took 8-24.

Blackrod climbed to fifth from bottom with a five-wicket win at second bottom Adlington. However, there are only 15 points separating the two.

Adlington opened with 155-9 with Jabbir Namajee and pro Will Halton both taking four wickets and Eddie Haddon scoring 41.

Hilal Namajee hit a half century as Blackrod won the game with five wickets remaining.

Atherton never let Edgworth settle into their stride as the latter tried to overhaul a target of 215.

Five Edgworth players got into the 20s before being out, pro Adam Syddall top scoring with 29 and Mike Davies and Jamie Birch both finishing on 28.

Ian Nuttall did the damage with 6-64 and pro Yogesh Galwalkar mopped up three more wickets as Edgworth were all out for 178.
