PUPILS at a Chorley high school will soon be getting their just desserts, after healthy summer puddings they developed go on the school's menu.
A group of 15 students of all ages at Albany Science College spent a series of lessons over a five week period working on the new sweet treats.
The children were inspired by the healthy eating campaign of Jamie Oliver.
They were given guidance on nutrition and which ingredients were in season by food technology teacher Janice Roberts.
Among the tasty treats to make the menu were high fibre flapjacks, smoothies, raspberry and blackcurrant muffins and fresh berry tarts.
The children worked in groups to develop and practise recipes with the emphasis being on freshness and taste, particularly working with seasonal summer fruit.
Year seven pupil James Pickering said: "We have worked together to try out different things and I've enjoyed improving on the recipes."
Chloe McEvoy and Lilli Nelson had created their own blackcurrant muffins for the project.
Chloe said: "There has been a real change in school menus over the last few months with far more healthier dishes on the menu at lunchtime. We have been just concentrating on the sweets and I hope that some of these will be enjoyed by the others at our school."
Wendy Wearden, head of food technology at the school, added: "The children have shown real enthusiasm for the project.
"We have worked together with our catering manager to get some of the dishes on the menu before the end of term.
Because of the time involved we could only look at sweets and there have certainly been some inspired and tasty ideas from the children
"I am sure they will be enjoyed by all the pupils"
