EUROPEAN champions Liverpool are reportedly preparing a £1 million bid for Wanderers' Greek star Stelios.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez appears ready to offer the 30-year-old midfielder a two-year deal at Anfield after watching him in action for Greece during the Confederations Cup.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has previously issued a "hands off" warning to clubs looking to court the Euro 2004-winning star, but news of Liverpool's interest has refused to go away.

The Reds are keen to bolster their squad before taking on Welsh minnows TNS on July 12/13 and have money to spend after their Champions League-winning exploits last season.

Stelios, who signed on a free in the summer of 2003, has one year remaining on his Wanderers contract and has previously been quoted as saying he would be happy to stay at the club.

He scored eight goals in 38 games last season, emerging as a driving force in Wanderers successful European bid.
