THE Association went run crazy on Sunday as two teams and two players went close to the all time high scoring records.
Spring View finished just 15 runs short of the record score of 346-4, set by Westhoughton against Little Hulton 88 years ago, in their victory over Lostock.
View's Tony Kelly was the day's individual top scorer with 188 of those runs, closely followed by Standish pro Glen Batticciotto who struck 174 of his side's devastating 327-5 at Golborne.
Standish sent out a warning to their main title rivals, Walshaw and Darcy Lever.
Nigel Geary hit 52 and Steve Knowles 49, but the game was all about Australian pro Batticciotto. Ian McMillan was the least to suffer of Golborne's bowler, taking 3-93, before the home side replied with 234-6. Rob Turnbull scored 93 of those and he holds the league record for an individual innings with his 209 for Golborne against A & T in 1995.
Kelly eclipsed everyone with his remarkable 188, although he had to be thankful to the Lostock fielders for dropping him three times.
Bottom club Lostock lost by 200 runs as they repled to Spring View's 331-5 with 131 all out. But it could have been different as View were 32-3 in the early stages before Martin James weighed in with 61.
Darcy are just 11 points ahead of View after a surprise defeat at home to Edgworth.
Jamie Birch scored 78 and John Mills 43 as Edgworth totalled 178-9. Guy Haynes then took 6-42 and Adam Syddall 3-43 as Darcy were bowled out for 131.
Walshaw still rule the roost, however, as they continued their long winning streak with a 43-run victory at Atherton.
Jason Whittaker scored 68 and Andrew Caunce 59 as Walshaw reached 239-5. Pro Jon Fielding then took 5-70 as Atherton were bowled out for 196, pro Yogesh Galwalkar hitting 54.
Second bottom Adlington closed the gap on Elton with a three wicket victory over the Bury side.
Pro Iain Critchley has made a quicker than expected recovery from a finger injury and took 4-22 as Elton were bowled out for 138.
Daisy Hill and Blackrod boosted their chances of not finishing second bottom with back to back victories.
Daisy had a seven-wicket success against Astley and Tyldesley whose batsmen had no answer to the bowling of Stephen Hodgkinson. He took 6-42 as the visitors were all out for 100. Daisy wrapped up the game in 22 overs with pro Faisal Aafreedi scoring 71.
Blackrod demolished Little Hulton by 10 wickets.
Pro Will Halton was the star with 6-51 and Jabbir Namajee took 4-43 to whittle Little Hulton out for just 96.
In reply, Joe Pryle was 41 not out when Blackrod completed the victory.
