LIFE inside the squared circle has always been second nature to Jonathan Hussey, but now he is ready to break with family tradition.

The 22-year-old from Bolton was born into a famous wrestling family, but is ready to don gloves for his professional boxing debut

Jonathan is the son of famous wrestler Mark "Rollerball" Rocco, who was part of the sport's golden age in the eighties, and grandson of the legendary "Jumpin" Jim Hussey, who thrilled wrestling audiences in the sixties.

Rather than follow in the family footsteps, however, Jonathan wants to forge a career under Queensbury Rules, although in true showbiz style, he will go under the nickname Jonny Rocco.

"I have always been energetic, but I always channelled it into sports like football and boxing," said Jonathan, who will debut on the undercard to Jamie Moore v Michael Jones at Altrincham Leisure Centre on July 8.

"I suppose if I was as big as my dad, I probably would have tried my hand at wrestling, but I am only 5ft 10ins so I have always stuck to boxing.

"Dad was a legend in the ITV days when people used to watch wrestlers like Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks.

"He made a good living out of it, and my grandad was a famous wrestler too.

"He's 82 and still lives in Kearsley, but he still thinks he could bodyslam a few people yet. He's still a rum one".

Jonathan's father was one of the biggest stars of the wrestling circuit, touring the UK, Japan and America in front of packed audiences.

After he retired, the family moved to Tenerife, which is where Jonathan began his amateur boxing career.

He remained undefeated while in the Canary Islands before moving back to Britain as a 16-year-old, fighting for Little Hulton Police before moving on to Tonge ABC.

Now working as a part-time postman, Jonathan believes he will adapt well to the professional game. He said: "I have always considered myself to have a pro stance, rather than a classic amateur one.

"My style has always been more about power and strength, so I think I can make it as a pro without changing it as much as other fighters would have to.

"Basically, I can't wait to get going. My family are all coming over for the fight, so I want to put on a show for them."

Tickets for the event, which also features Jamie Moores grudge rematch against Michael Jones for the British Light-middleweight belt are available, priced £30, from 01204 493 563.
