THERE will be no mistaking the 20-strong Bolton Majorettes dancing team in the Race for Life next month - they will be the ones with the pompoms and batons!

The championship winning troupe's team will include some of the girls themselves, plus mums and grandmas for the three-mile event at Leverhulme Park on Sunday, July 24.

The team of runners and walkers will be in red and white outfits, and will fit in the event between carnivals as far away as Blackpool, as well as the many local school events and fairs at which they perform.

They will be joining the thousands of local females of all ages and levels of fitness who are taking part in the two races.

The morning race is at 11am and the afternoon event at 2pm to accommodate the large number of runners keen to take part and help raise money for organisers Cancer Research UK.

Last year, the Bolton race raised £109,000 but early signs are that the 2005 local event will be a record-breaker. It is one of 160 similar events around the country over the summer.

Individual runners and teams of females are taking part, with the names of relatives and friends affected by cancer pinned to their backs. Schools, companies, slimming groups and bands of friends are all included in the runners this year. There is a warm-up session beforehand and participants are advised to get to the park early.

Coverage of the event will take place before during and after in the Bolton Evening News and through our media partners, Tower FM.

There are still a few places left in the afternoon race; to register online visit www.raceforlife.org or ring the hotline on 08705 134314
