I STRONGLY object to the sand extraction planning application by Tarmac for Runshaw Lane, Euxton and gave these reasons to the county council.

For the exceptional number of years involved and the annual extraction tonnage, I calculate that between 100 and 200 vehicles per day will be needed to convey sand from the site to Tarmac's customers

These vehicles will need to return to collect more sand, so this will double the throughput of heavy traffic.

Tarmac will generate profit from this project at the expense of the environment that Euxton residents enjoy at this time, unless something is done to change the current plan; or, if the council does not have the authority to change it, it should be rejected until a suitable alternative is found.

Profit is not a bad word - indeed, it can be sensibly encouraged in a free society - but local residents should not suffer as a consequence.

So, if the county council wish to grant this application, it should ensure vehicles of this size and volume do not pass through Euxton or any other nearby village.

Further, residents should not be disturbed by noise or unsightly buildings or plant.

To effect this, the authority should give Tarmac the following instruction before the project is approved:

Additional heavy traffic though Euxton and other nearby villages is unacceptable, as is noise and visual pollution, and this cannot be approved.

Therefore, granting of this application is dependant on the following:

i) Adjacent to the proposed site is the M6. Tarmac should construct an access road from the site to this motorway, both north and south, at its own expense.

ii) Tarmac should construct natural barriers to prevent noise and visual pollution, at its own expense.

This is the only way that I can support this project.

Otherwise, I have to record that planning permission should be refused.
