SEVERAL Horwich Harriers took part the British Masters 5K Road Running Championships at the ASDA Horwich Carnival Races.

In the ladies Over-35s, Horwich's Angela Allen took individual silver behind Rachel Jones, of Salford, and ran the fifth fastest time by a UK female in 2005. She finished fourth overall in the race and led the Horwich ladies 35-44s trio to team gold.

The other two members of the victorious team were Julie Haworth (fourth Over-35) and Suzanne Budgett (fourth Over-40). Gaynor Higson finished sixth Over-35s and 20th in the race and Denise Wakefield was eighth Over-50 and 33rd.

Horwich's other individual medallist was Lola Small, who was second Over-70 a terrific performance considering she recently returned from injury.

For the men, Horwich's first finisher was Steve Duckworth who finished 15th Over-40. Steve was followed by Dave Massey (26th Over-40), Graham Schofield (11th Over-45) and Barry Allman (23rd Over-45).

In the ASDA Horwich Carnival 5K, which incorporated the AAA of England and Warburtons North of England AA Championships, Horwich had three male runners.

First to finish was Colin Rigby in 40th in a time of 15.45, followed by junior James Kevan in 50th (16.30) and Andy Neary in 58th (16.56). Horwich finished the team event in 11th overall and ninth in the North of England.

Horwich's Katie Ingram was to finish 16th female and first Junior Lady in a time of 17.31, with Vicky Snape 31st and second Junior Lady in a time of 20.15.

Horwich RMI Harrier Clare McKenna was finally selected to run for Northern Ireland in the Snowdon International Fell Race on July 23.

The decision arrived after McKenna finished a brilliant second in the trial race in Donard Forest, Northern Ireland on June 17.
