A CAREER spanning retrospective taking in every aspect of the history of this iconic band.
35 tracks spread over 2 CD’s show the band from their hard, uncompromising beginning with ‘Something Better Change’ and ‘Grip’.
Along the way, there are some amazing departures from the norm with the waltz-tempoed ‘Golden Brown’ and ‘Waltzinblack’.
There’s also the thoughtful ‘Always The Sun’ and ‘Strange Little Girl’; some covers like ’96 Tears’ and ‘Walk On By’ and rarer numbers from the nineties such as ‘Coup De Grace’.
As musicians, they are no slouches and as such are far better than any of their contemporaries; and there is no other band than can contain swirling melodic keyboards and snarling vocals in the same song.
The collection is brought right up to date with tracks from their last studio album ‘Suite XVI’ with the excellent ‘Unbroken’ and ‘Spectre Of Love’.
JJ Burnel, bassist and co-founder of the band, is very pleased with the result.
“It’s quite a good compilation and not just a ‘hits’ package.” He says, “There are some pretty impressive album tracks there.”
And, as an added bonus, there are two brand new tracks in the form of new single ‘Retro Rockets’ and ‘I Don’t See The World Like You Do’, which bookend the set.
If you want the definitive Stranglers’ compilation, then this is most definitely it.
