JUNIOR teams Hilton’s Matthew Field and St Catherine’s Bethany Farnworth have won their respective under-13s titles at the Greater Manchester Schools Championship.
They will now represent the county at the national finals in April.
Only two matches were played in the Premier Division of the Bolton Table Tennis League where top team Ramsbottom A beat St Catherine’s A 7-2 with three wins by Mick Moir, and two each by Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson. John Hilton won the two St Cath’s sets.
Dave Pickard and Ron Pennington were unbeaten for Hilton A who beat Little Lever B by the same score. Sub Allan Tomlinson added one, and Ian Lansdale and Phil Riley one each for the losers.
In Division One, St Catherine’s B, who are second in the table, scored a 9-0 win over Wingates, with Paul Brandwood, Stuart Wallis and Kristof Pinter their unbeaten players.
An Alan Cowley treble, plus two wins by Dave Andrews and one by Allan Tomlinson, gave Hilton B a 6-3 win over Ladybridge A, whose Craig Bradbury won two and Dave Bolton one. Heaton B lost to visitors Little Lever C 7-2. John Hutchinson won three and Paul Tatlock and Ric Simmons two apiece for Little Lever. Barry Dobbins and Paul Mort won one each for Heaton.
Grubba Fans are top of Division Two following two victories, 8-1 at Heaton E and 6-3 at Hilton C. The two wins give them a 13-point advantage over second-placed Nomads B, who have two matches in hand.
