Wanderers manager Gary Megson has told his players only goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen is assured of his place for the derby against Blackburn on Sunday.

Two weeks on Megson is still reeling from the defeat by Aston Villa, which posed searching questions about the quality of his squad.

Bolton have been shipping goals with 13 conceded in the last three games, including the 5-1 mauling at Villa Park in their last outing before the international break.

Megson is adamant the rot has got to stop now, starting with a positive result against their local rivals.

He said: “The Villa defeat will rankle for a long time. Whatever team it turns out to be on Sunday... if Jussi is not playing, he is the only one who could say it is out of order.

“Everyone else who plays against Blackburn can consider themselves fortunate in my book.

“We’ve had to wait until Friday morning because a lot of the players haven’t been here.

“I had my views at the time on why it was as poor as it was but that has to stay private.

“We didn’t give ourselves a chance to succeed at Villa because of the way we went about it.”

The performance at Villa caught Megson by surprise.

He added: “I had been pleased with the way we performed against Chelsea and Manchester United.

“I was also delighted with our displays against Everton and Tottenham. We are in exactly the same position as we were in last season and we went on to finish 13th, without doing well in our last six games. We want to try to improve on that.

“The only way of doing that is winning games and to do that we need to perform a lot better than we did at Villa Park. I would like to see us judged at the end of the season but everyone in football is judged all the time. We are under constant scrutiny.”

Megson, who has been linked with a £7million move for Celtic midfielder Scott Brown in January, will leave it as late as possible before making a decision on Tamir Cohen.
