TABLE TENNIS: Premier Division leaders Ramsbottom A scored maximum points against their own C team, while Ramsbottom B in second spot won 6-3 at Burning Desire whose Lindsey Reynolds was unbeaten.
Tameside in third place also took maximum points from Ramsbottom C, as did St Catherine’s A against Little Lever B. Hilton A ran out 5-4 winners at Wharton with four players each winning two on the night.
The Division One top-of-the-table clash between leaders Heaton A and St Catherine’s B in second place resulted in a narrow 5-4 win for the latter who now share top spot with Heaton on 45 points. Star performer was the unbeaten Kristof Pinter for St Caths, aided by two wins from sub Lee Davenport. Steve Barber scored two and Matt and Paul Ward one each for Heaton. Third place Nomads A beat St Catherine’s C 7-2 with three wins from Derek Watmough and two each from Dennis Collier and Brett Haslam.
Heaton B recorded an 8-1 win over Meadow Bank with trebles from Paul Mort and Barry Dobbins and a double from Ian Craig.
Tommy Ryan notched three wins, Martin Holt and Ken Hayes two each for Ramsbottom D who scored a 7-2 victory over Hilton B Coburg closed the gap on Division Two leaders Nomads B after their 5-4 win at Heaton F although Nomads have a match in hand. Bob Bent had three wins and Jimmy Hewitt two for Coburg. Three wins from Mark Martin and two from Alan Lansdale gave Little lever D their 5-4 win over Heaton D. Phil Noden was unbeaten for Meadow Hill A, who lost 5-4 at Hilton C, as was Steve Ross for Hilton E who lost at BEN A by the same score.
Three wins from Peader McKinstry, two from John Cole and one from Brian Greenhalgh gave Ladybridge B a 7-2 win over Hilton D.
Top Division Three team St Catherine’s D maintained their unbeaten record with a 9-0 win over BEN B. From a 5-1 lead, Hilton G, in second spot, scraped home 5-4 against their F team with two wins from Jean Smart and John Lawrence, and one by Adele Spibey.
Walkden Meths suffered two 5-4 defeats, against St Paul’s Peel, whose Mick Murray was unbeaten, and Ladybridge C, including three wins from Richard Whittleworth.
Three wins from John Ainley and two each from John Rothwell and John Kofi gave Farnworth SC a 7-2 win at Irlam Steel. Roy Alty scored three wins for St Catherine’s D who lost 6-3 at Meadow Hill B whose John Riley, Roy Platt and Jackie Smith each won two.
The Hilton H trio of Alan Revell, Malcolm Wilcock and Tony Mason each won three in their 9-0 win victory over St Paul’s Peel In Division Four, the Lads Club A scored maximum points at Hilton K with Ashley Burton, Craig Duncan and Roy Isherwood all unbeaten, as did Farnworth TTC B at St Catherine’s F with Matthew Leach, Nathan Patel and Sam Evans all winning three.
Top team Hilton I won 7-2 at Lads Club B, with three wins from James Storey and two each fromy Gordon Stone and Malcolm Rose. Boyzone beat Heaton H by the same score, which included trebles from Mick Barnes and Jez Grimwood, and one win from Nick Grimwood.
