BOWLING prodigy Anthony Booth-Young is on the hunt for national glory after lifting the Indoor Under-25s Lancashire Championships.
The 12-year-old Turton High School pupil who won the outdoor equivalent of the tournament in the summer, beat off competition from players up to 13 years his senior to lift the title in Swinton after beating 16-year-old Dominic McVittie 9-6, 4-11, 2-0 in the final.
That earned the local lad a crack at the Lincolnshire champion, 19-year-old Christopher Brunton, from Scunthorpe, and Anthony won 6-4, 7-8, 2-0 in York to qualify for the National Knockout in Melton Mowbray on November 28.
There he has been pitted against the champion from Surrey.
“It’s going to be tough for him in the nationals but you never know — he seems to play better when he has to concentrate,” said Anthony’s father Graham.
