ROUNDERS: Bromley Cross emerged victorious as they beat Walkden in the final of the BSF Ladies’ Rounders League’s annual inter-district tournament at Walkden Cricket Club on Sunday.
Eight “district” teams, comprising players who live in their respective areas, were divided into two sections with the winners and runners-up progressing to the semi-finals.
All matches were one innings per team, each of a maximum of 40 good balls.
Walkden won all three of their games to top group one and Bromley Cross, with two victories, also progressed to the next stage, while Westhoughton won all their games in group two with Deane & Central District also going through.
In the semi-finals, Walkden turned on the style to beat Deane & Central 100-66 but, in the other game, Westhoughton suffered their first defeat of the day, losing 79-84 to Bromley Cross.
The final was an excellent, if low-scoring, game in which Bromley Cross avenged their only defeat, beating Walkden by 57-38.
Next Sunday sees the last action of the summer season when the Sunday Handicap finals will be played at Darcy Lever Cricket Club.
The H-O match between Butchers Arms and Wally’s Eleven will start at 1pm. Mary Harrison is the referee and Wally’s have a 40-run start.
The A-G final between the top two teams from Section A — Rupert Ladies A and Darcy Lever C&SC A — is a scratch start game to be refereed by Graham Palmer. The game will start at approximately 2.30pm, immediately after the end of the previous game.
The presentation evening is at the Reebok Stadium on Friday, October 16, and tickets are available from social secretary Angie Hill.
Teams requiring more than the 14 trophies provided by the league, should contact trophy secretary Debbie Booth as soon as possible.
