SOMETHING good is brewing at a Bolton-based hostelry which has opened its doors again after undergoing a £120,000 refurbishment.

Not only has the pub been given a new name, but it now has its own microbrewery which will give customers a distinct flavour of the new premises.

The Brewhouse in Blackburn Road, formerly The Cheetham Arms, is operating again after being shut for seven months and pub company Welcome Taverns is the new owner.

Jeremy Jones, managing director of Welcome Taverns, said: “We took over The Cheetham Arms earlier this year and wanted to do something different and special to make it stand out from the crowd.

“Historically, this pub was renowned for serving cask ales and only being a stone’s throw away from Bank Top Brewery, we decided to enlist the brewery’s help and set up a microbrewery on the premises.”

This consists of four traditional brass barrels, visible from inside the pub through a glass partition. The pub will also have a head brewer who will be trained in the art of brewing beer.

Mr Jones said: “There is no name for the bespoke brew yet.

“Each batch will be named separately depending on its flavour, which is governed by the hops used.”

Not only will the pub stand out with its own private brewery, but customers can enjoy good quality food, prepared by a Heathcote’s-trained head chef.

And from the autumn, The Brewhouse will also offer bed and breakfast with four hotel standard, en-suite rooms available.

The Brewhouse is leased by Welcome Taverns from national pub company Enterprise Inns Plc, which has supported the entrepreneurial venture from start to finish.

Welcome Taverns runs four other pubs in the Bolton and Blackburn area.
