LITTLE Freya Murphy has been through more pain in the last six months than most adults will endure in a lifetime.

The brave youngster was diagnosed with cancer in January and since then has endured countless chemotherapy sessions.

Now her family face an agonising three month wait to see if six-year-old Freya is in the clear.

Her parents, Keren and Alan Murphy, want to take Freya and her two-year-old sister, Esme, on a holiday of a lifetime to Florida as a treat for all they have been through over the last eight months.

They have already managed to raise £2,800 towards the trip with the help of relatives and friends, but are appealing for help to hit their £4,000 target.

Mrs Murphy, aged 36, of Radcliffe Road, Darcy Lever, said: “It’s been horrendous for all of us and it’s not over yet. Freya has another scan in November and will face check-ups for the rest of her life.

“She has been so brave and Esme has been a great support to her. We just want to give them the holiday of a lifetime and see them enjoying themselves and having fun again. If anyone can help us, we would be so grateful.”

Freya’s cancer battle began when her parents found a lump in her gum days before Christmas. The family had to wait until January 5 for the results of tests. They were then told she had rhabdomyosarcoma — a cancer that affects the body’s soft tissue.

The Blackshaw Primary School pupil has had six months of chemotherapy at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and six weeks of radiotherapy at The Christie hospital. She was in hospital for her sixth birthday on June 10 and only finished her treatment in early July.

A scan two weeks ago showed some abnormalities, which doctors think is scar tissue, but her family will have to wait until November to see if she is given the all clear.

In the meantime, they have arranged a two week break in Florida in September through the Christian Lewis Trust children’s cancer charity.

They will spend a week at the Give Kids The World Village in Orlando — a special resort for sick children — and a week in a villa in Florida.

If you want to make a donation to help the family reach their holiday target, send a cheque, payable to K Murphy, to 509 Radcliffe Road, Darcy Lever, BL3 1SX. Alternatively, email kerenmm@fsmail.net to find out more or to arrange a fundraiser.
