THERE were no goals but plenty of action to get the crowd excited as a host of former Wanderers players rolled back the years in the Legends match.

Gudni Bergsson, Frank Worthington, Claus Jensen and Peter Reid were among the Bolton old boys who played their part in Jussi Jaaskelainen’s testimonial celebrations.

A slimmed-down Ivan Campo still showed plenty of class in the midfield for the Yellows, though it was undoubtedly Tony Kelly, playing for the Whites, who caught the eye most with a succession of raking cross-field passes.

Andy Walker showed he had lost none of his predatory instinct inside the penalty area to latch onto Michael Johansen’s cut-back only for his shot to be blocked on the line by Simon Coleman while, at the other end, Bob Taylor could not squeeze the ball home from a tight angle.

Amir Khan, the new WBC world light-welterweight champion, showed he is better suited to a boxing ring than a football pitch after his introduction at half time.

David Lee, who captained Bolton to success in the North West Masters Cup last month, came closest to breaking the stalemate but his last-minute effort was superbly turned away by Jonathan Barber, the teenage son of Wanderers goalkeeping coach Fred.
