A soldier who did 300 exercises after completing the gruelling Ironman UK Triathlon last weekend has raised almost £500 for charity.
Chris Gibbs, a former Little Lever High School pupil, did 100 press-ups, 100 sit-ups and 100 burpees, to raise money for the Help For Heroes.
The 28-year-old, a member of the Army Physical Training Corps in Cambridge, completed the Ironman race — a 2.4-mile swim in Rivington reservoir, a 112-mile bike ride in Lancashire and a 26.2-mile marathon — in 14 hours and 50 minutes.
He said: “It wasn’t the best time but it was a great event. I was a bit worried about the swim, but I found that quite easy. The cycling wasn’t too bad but the marathon took everything out of me.
“I said I would never do it again, but now I’ve had a few days to recover, I want to do it next year and beat my time. I’ll be aiming for under 13 hours.”
