TWO neighbours have boosted the Marie Curie Nurses Appeal by £4,000 after opening up their gardens to the public.
Kath White and Alison Hargreaves hosted a three-part garden party at their homes in Egerton.
They are now able to donate £4,000 to Marie Curie Cancer Care’s appeal to raise £200,000 in Bolton in a year.
The Bolton News is backing the campaign, which aims to provide more nursing care for terminally ill people in their homes, enabling them to die there.
Kath and Alison planned a day of activities in their gardens in Cox Green Road, Egerton, including a coffee morning, afternoon tea and evening picnic, with a jazz band and fireworks.
More than 400 people visited their homes, The Squirrels and Dimple House, helping them to reach the amazing fundraising total.
Kath said: “It was a fantastic day.
“I’m thrilled to bits with how much we raised.
“I can’t believe the generosity of people, even people who could not attend have been dropping off donations.”
The friends are considering arranging another fundraiser and are urging people to support the appeal.
Kath said: “I understand why people want to die at home and they can’t do that unless they’ve got the help of Marie Curie nurses. People I have spoken to have told me how wonderful the nurses are.
“I would encourage others to get involved in the campaign.”
