Cash for clothes. It does exactly what it says on the tin. A new boutique shop in Blackburn Road is giving you the chance to own designer pieces at bargain prices, leaving those cash strapped fashionistas looking stylish while saving pounds. Jenny Minard investigates It works like this . . . you take in your quality garments, they give you cash and then sell on your items to their customers. Easy peasy.
There is no faffing around waiting for commission like at a dress agency and with more and more customers through the doors they now have around 6,000 items in stock.
The first thing I homed in on was a Karen Millen skirt for £25, which would normally retail at about £60 — still with the tags on, never even worn.
There is one snag! If you’re going in to sell then it’s going to have to be good quality and branded items. You’ll not be able to off-load your ageing Primark or Matalan pieces here.
Owner Russell Guest said: “Some people just don’t have the money to spend on designer items with designer prices. It’s been brilliant. We have repeat customers coming back on a regular basis. There are unique items for everyone. Anybody can come in and find something.”
The shop certainly has a boutique vibe to it. Russell explained how he saw a niche in the market and sees the business as a hangover from the big boom. He said: “People are in a quandary. All their cash is tied up in their closets and they are looking to liquidate.”
Unlike eBay, here you can actually try the clothes on and you can also get up to 50 per cent extra to spend in store if you sell your clothes to them.
One very happy customer in store said: ”It’s an Aladdin’s cave here. I’m a shopaholic and there is a vast choice. I get cash and I get to buy clothes. It’s great.”
The store also has a clearance shop for those wanting even more of a bargain and whatever is left over gets recycled adding an environmentally friendly dimension to the business.
You really can’t miss this store if you love a designer bargain — so overhaul your wardrobe, you can’t afford not to.
