Hello sailor. It comes around once a year and it simply cannot fail — unless of course you dress head to toe as a sea fairer. Working with a palette of red, white and blue is so easy to do. But you can also add navy into the mix as well as the obligatory anchor paraphernalia.
First up you’ll need a bikini and this one from Marks and Spencer is great for the summer. The briefs, £15, will help disguise problem thighs if a high leg is not for you and the cups on the top, £18, are perfect for ladies with a fuller chest as the band around the chest will give extra support.
If you want to break with tradition but still work the trend then go for this sundress from PPQ’s Fusion range at Oli. The great thing about the black stripes is that you would be able to wear opaque tights if need be — perfect for unpredictable Britain. At £50 it’s at the higher end of the budget but it’s a classic which you’ll be able to wear time and time again.
If you want to touch on the trend then try this border stripe full skirt at £28 from Dorothy Perkins. Keep the top half slim though as this will create a shape and you don’t want to look too rounded. The nipped in waist creates a great silhouette.
Puff ball does seem to be the order of the summer and this dress from boohoo.com is super cute. The neckline, the cap sleeves and the shape of the skirt will certainly get you in the summer mood.
At £20 it really won’t break the bank either. Wear with little white pumps for a dressed down look — perfect for picnics and days out in the sun.
If you want to accessorise your outfit then go for this three stripe necklace at £15 from Joy. It will give you a splash of colour without going over board.
