Withins stormed to victory in this year’s Bolton Schools KS4 Velodrome Cycling Championships – winning all but one of the events on offer.

The one-lap standing sprint time trial for boys saw GB rider Chris Latham win in a time of 20.25, almost two seconds faster than the runner-up Rob Gubbins of Turton.

The girls event saw Withins’ Paige Bates cross the line in a time of 23.72, again nearly two seconds quicker than the runner-up Naomi Molyneux of George Tomlinson.

In the four-lap three-rider team pursuit for boys, the trio of Johnny Kinsella, Ryan McClelland and Ryan Chappell finished their Withins’ cycling career on a high with a superb ride, knocking four seconds off their personal best to win in 84.27, seven seconds faster than the second-placed team of Chadwick, Lockett and Haslam from George Tomlinson.

In the three-lap three-rider team sprint, the girls’ title was won by the Turton team consisting of Alex Waldren, Tasha Bogle and Ailsa Terry in a time of 68.04.

In the boys’ event, the Withins’ team of Chris Latham, Ashley Farlow and Adam Wilson took gold with a time of 55.9. Second place went to Turton.
