DAY-TRIP litter louts could have ruined Belmont’s chances of winning a best-kept village competition when they left a trail of cans and bottles around the Blue Lagoon beauty spot.
Judges visited the village in August, 1975, and if there was any litter when they made their secret inspection, then Belmont would have been out of the competition. Belmont was entered in the competition for villages throughout Lancashire by the local branch of the Women’s Institute.
