PIGGY — the once almost extinct Lancashire sport — made another stride towards new popularity at Egerton Cricket Club in August, 1974.
Some 200 people watched 20 six-man teams do battle in Turton Sports Council’s senior Piggy championships.
Few of them had even heard of “Piggy” before it was revived by the council in 1972. Closely-fought contests prevented the completion of the event in one night and the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final were played the next week.
