Lancashire Road Club riders made a great start to the new season.

Ady Lawrence set the wheels in motion with a fantastic victory in the Hit the North 1.5 Winter Sprinter in Phillips Park.

The endurance event for mountain bikes was opened up to cyclo-cross bikes this year, and Ady made full use of his fitness and skill in riding a cyclo-cross bike to finish some five-and-a-half minutes in front of the second man.

Then, Ady and Craig Battersby made an early raid into Yorkshire to steal the honours in the Swift Hilly time trial over 10 miles.

Ady did a fine ride and finished first with a time of 23min 44 secs. Craig came home in third in a time of 24min 50 secs.

In last weekend’s Cleveleys Road Club two-up 10-mile time trial around the roads of Preston, the Lancashire Road Club lads performed well.

Three teams faced the timekeeper – Tony Workman and Craig Battersby, John Martindale and John Bamford together with Jason Tonge and Daniel Hurran.

All teams acquitted themselves well, and Workman and Battersby finished second with a time of 22min 05secs. Hurran and Tonge finished fifth with a time of 23mins 41secs while Martindale and Bamford finished in 24min 33secs.
