DIVISION Three side Coburg are the only team outside the top two divisions to make it into the hat for round four of the Warburton Cup.
They only joined the league at the beginning of this season, but have an experienced team who used their three points start to beat First Division Nomads B 6-0.
Bob Bent, Jim Hewitt and George Mather all scored two wins for the winners to put their side into round four along with three teams from the Premier Division and three from Division One.
Heaton D from Division One, who were on plus two, scored a 5-2 victory over fellow Division One team Hilton D, with three wins by Alan Cowley.
The Burning Desire A trio of Paul Cicchelli, Lyndsey Reynolds and Reena Ardeshana were all unbeaten in their 9-0 win over Second Division BEN A who received four points start.
Premier Division team, Nomads A, won a close match 6-3 against Second Division Hilton F, who were on plus four. The win featured three wins by Dennis Collier.
From scratch, Tameside beat fellow Premier Division team Little Lever A 5-3, with two wins by Phil Biggs and Caroline Hallows. First Division Ladybridge A, on plus two, enjoyed a 7-2 win over Premier Division team Heaton A, with a treble by Craig Bradbury.
Burning Desire B came out on top against fellow Division One team Withins A. Played from scratch the Burning Desire 6-3 victory included an excellent treble by Ian Quinn which was added to by two wins from Ben Armstrong. Paul Brandwood scored two for Withins.
In the Brian Gittins Cup for Premier and Division One teams, Premier Division teams, Ramsbottom A and Little Lever B, went through to round three with walkovers. From the other matches three teams from both divisions are in the hat.
Hilton B beat fellow Premier Division team Wharton 5-4 from scratch. Andy Michnowiec and Mark Gibson scored two wins, with Barry Elliott and Glen Payne winning two apiece for Wharton.
From scratch, Tameside beat fellow Premier Division Nomads A 5-3 with two wins for Phil Biggs and Caroline Hallows for Tameside, and two for Dennis Collier for Nomads. Burning Desire A ran out 6-0 winners against Division One team Hilton C on three start, with Paul Cicchelli and sub Ian Quinn unbeaten.
Three wins by Craig Bradbury and two by Dave Bolton gave Ladybridge A, on plus two, a 5-4 win over fellow Division One team Ramsbottom C.
Division One team Heaton D, on plus three, scored an impressive 5-4 victory over Premier Division team Little Lever A, Ady Denson and Alan Cowley winning two for the winners and Ron Durose two for the losers.
In a close match between two First Division teams, Hilton D came out on top 5-4 against Nomads B who received two start. Lee Davenport scored three and Brett Haslam two for the winners.
In the George Yates Shield for the Second and Third Division, four teams from each division are in the next round.
Division Two Farnworth SC A made the most of their two points start to record a 5-4 win over top Second Division team Ramsbottom D, due in the main to three wins by Iain Lindley.
Hilton F, who gave Division Three team Withins C three start, ran out 8-1 winners with trebles by Brian Cook and Jim Bolton.
Hilton Tigers, on plus two, beat fellow Division Two team Meadow Bank 7-2 with three wins by Robert Hall and Marek Maraszkiewicz and two by Chris Naylor Meadow Hill A secured a 5-3 victory over BEN A in a game played off scratch. Phil Noden won three for Meadow Hill. Division Three’s Hilton G, on plus two, ran out 5-3 winners over Second Division Heaton E thanks to a treble by Matthew Fields.
Played off scratch, all three of Division Three’s Coburg players – Bob Bent, Jim Hewitt and Mark Speakman – won two sets in their 6-3 win at Second Division Hilton E.
Farnworth SC B, on two start, scored a 5-1 victory over fellow Division Three team Ladybridge B with two wins by John Rothwell and John Ainley.
Third Division Ladybridge C made good use of their three start to beat Division Two side Withins C. The win featured doubles by Andy Scully and Colin Gregory.
The Ron Hindle Memorial Trophy for Division Four teams produced three close matches with two 5-4 wins and one 6-3.
Heaton J gave their K team two start but returned a 5-4 win which featured a treble by Gordon Stone and a brace by Les Clough. For the K team, John Parker won two. Heaton G, on two start, beat their H team 5-4 with two wins by Colin Roberts and Phil Beales.
Played off scratch, Farnworth SC C won 6-3 at Irlam Steel which featured three wins by Ian Westmoreland. Lads Club received a bye into the next round.
