Today, in session three, I was encouraged to comment on the road signs and ensure that I understand them . It was also pointed out that I need to take note of all road markings and be sure that I don’t misjudge them and perhaps make a late decision which could irritate other road users and even provoke road rage!
Making good progress is important—driving up to the speed limit when it is safe to do so. I mustn’t dawdle along but neither must I exceed the speed limits and break the law.
Negotiating corners and bends was the main theme of this session. When entering a right hand bend I should position my car well into the left hand side of the road. This gives me the longest view and presents myself earlier to oncoming traffic. With a left hand bend, I need to be further towards the crown of the road. When negotiating the bends I was told “Slow in, fast out” and in this way I won’t make the fatal mistake “Fast in, can’t get out”.
I’m still finding it difficult to keep my speed down in 30 mile limit areas as I seem to be heavy footed. Once again I slip the car into third gear and this controls the speed.
The next session is motorway driving and a chance to practice all sorts of maneuvers back at the Chorley Street car park. All the associates will be there so it should be good fun as well as instructive.
