COMMUNITY radio station volunteers kick-started an exciting year with a launch party, with a little help from “Bolton Bullfrog” Bernard Wrigley.

Bolton FM is set to hit the airwaves in June this year after being granted permission to broadcast across the town by radio regulator Ofcom last March. It currently airs on the internet at boltonfm.com.

The station, which is yet to be given a frequency, is run by dozens of volunteers who turned out in force last night, to celebrate their achievements so far and to look forward to the year ahead.

Andrew Dickson, the station’s sales and marketing director, said the new station will be on the radio throughout the day, with a range of programmes from music to plays to interviews to specialist programmes for minority groups.

He added: “It is all about Bolton and that’s the main thing.”

Mr Wrigley, who is a patron of the station, said: “I think the radio station is a great idea. I’m looking forward to it starting in June as it will be great for the community.”

Anyone interested in volunteering at Bolton FM should contact the station, at its offices in Ashburner Street Market, on 01204 375408.
