LEIGH Genesis crashed out of the UniBond League Cup after conceding two extra-time goals.
The result was harsh on Lee Merricks' side, who battled bravely against their hosts for all of the 120 minutes.
Leigh had, in fact, taken the lead on 87 minutes when the referee ruled that Gareth Richards had handled a Leigh corner with his arm, and Marsh stepped up to dispatch the penalty.
However, Ashton broke Leigh's hearts when Richards levelled two minutes later.
The game went to extra-time, and goals from former Radcliffe Borough man Ian Kearney and Mulholland sealed Ashton's passage.
