EAGLEY Prize Band are pictured practising in the Eagley Mill canteen in 1953.
The band had already been in existence for more than 100 years.
The Bolton Evening News reported that in the early days “the band was lucky to obtain the services as tutor of the famous Mr Alex Owen, conductor of Besses-o’th’Barn Band when they were world champions”. Eagley’s bandsmen packed up their instruments during the First World War, but after a reunion the band started up again.
