BOLTON darts ace Lisa Ashton says she is hungry for more success after making her debut at the BDO World Championships on Saturday.

The 38-year-old, who plays for the Lord Raglan in the Astley Bridge Darts League, became the first woman from Lancashire to qualify for the Lakeside after winning the Holland Open in December.

Unfortunately, Ashton, pictured in action on the night, was knocked out at the first hurdle by World number one Trina Gulliver. The local girl was beaten 2-0 in just 16 minutes in front of the BBC cameras.

However, the experience has whetted the appetite of Ashton and she wants more.

“It was a great experience – much different to playing in the pubs of Bolton,” said Ashton, who was supported at the event by daughters Lindsay (18) and Danielle (10).

“I was a little nervous at first, but I soon got used to it and I think I did okay.

“I was just playing a very good player, and it was hard because she didn’t give me a sniff.

“I just hope I am there again next year because I think I will be better for the experience. It won’t all be new to me and I will know what to expect.

“The standard is improving, and that has dragged my game up.”

Ashton is back in action in February, when she will battle it out in the Scottish Open in Glasgow.
