It's all change for Victoria Derbyshire in the New Year with a new time slot for her Radio Five Live show but Christmas is going to a the same as every year - traditional, all about family, she said.
Although sadly she has revealed she won’t be opening her presents on the big day in Bolton. Instead the family are all visiting her in Middlesex and the emphasis is on the children.
The former Bury Grammar School pupil, who grew up in Turton, said: “My mum is coming down and my aunty, my cousins, my brother and my sister. They are all coming to us for Christmas so it's going to be big and busy.”
With two children, four-year-old Oliver and two-year-old Joe, Victoria certainly has her hands full. Victoria said: “Oliver is getting a tractor, obviously not a real tractor, I mean a replica. He is into all motor transport. It could be a train, a tractor or a car.
“The two-year-old, Joe, is getting a racing car. Again not a big-sized one, but one that you can sit on and zoom around on. Typical boys.”
She admitted that the boys are very excited about Christmas and said: “They are talking about what snack we are going to leave out for Father Christmas. Whether it should be Battenburg cake, which they are both fans of, or whether it should be a mince pie and all that sort of stuff. They are really into it and love having all the family about.”
New Year for Victoria will be more of an adult affair. She said: “Because of babysitting duties, we are having friends round to us. The kids are asleep at about 7pm, and you can relax. Most of my friends have young children now, so it's easy for them to come to ours and we all crash out together. Children play together so that’s quite nice, it's a bit different from when I was in my twenties but hey it's still nice.”
