FOOTBALLERS are well known for their terrible haircuts.
From the disastrous perms of Kevin Keegan to David Beckham’s bleach blond mohican, not a season goes by without a new dodgy style making the headlines.
Now, a hair salon which sponsors a Bolton amateur team has stepped in to sort out the players’ bad barnets.
Castle Hill FC, of Tonge Moor, are currently 10 points clear of their nearest rivals at the top of the Lancashire Amateur League Division 4.
However, although the team’s results are head and shoulders above the others — the players’ hairstyles are languishing down in the relegation zone.
To improve their image and reward them for some hair-raising performances on the pitch, the Euphoria Hair and Beauty salon in Harwood treated the team - players and staff - to the star treatment.
Salon owner Sharon Guy said: “We’ve sponsored the team for a few years and we just thought it would be nice to give them a bit of a makeover.
“We’ve given them free cuts and colour treatments — and the lads with shaved heads have been given head massages.
“We wanted to say well done to the guys as well because they have been playing so well this season.”
The players also unveiled Castle Hill FC’s new strip for the first time at their “girly session” at salon.
Team boss Rob Rostron, who has been coaching some of the lads since they were 12 years old, even allowed his players a night off from training for the pampering session.
He said: “We’ve got a few lads who are quite vain. Some of them spend more time in front of the mirror than their girlfriends.
“This is a bit of fun but hopefully it will give them a boost and help them keep winning.”
Mr Rostron added: “I started with this team when they were about 12 years old. A lot of them couldn’t find another football team and we were terrible in our first season.
“But since then, we’ve stuck together and it has really paid off. They are a great bunch of lads with great team spirit.”
