COUNCILLOR Norman Critchley will be Bolton’s next mayor.
He will take over the chains of office from the town’s current First Citizen, Cllr Anthony Connell, in May.
Cllr Critchley, pictured, was announced as Bolton’s Mayor-elect at a meeting of the full council this week, having been nominated by Labour councillors as well as his Conservative colleagues.
Cllr Critchley represents Bromley Cross ward and has served the council for 21 years.
He said: “I’m very honoured. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have been a councillor and this is the highlight.”
Cllr Critchley’s new role will force him out of politics for a year because a civic mayor must remain neutral. The chartered structural engineer will also retire to devote all his time to the new role, which will see his wife, Delyse, become mayoress.
