A COMPUTER whizz has been named the country’s top IT student.
Straight-A student Marcus Webb gained five A levels in physics, maths, further maths, chemistry and computing this summer.
But the brainy former pupil of Holy Cross College in Bury, who now studies maths and computer science at Oxford University, was stunned when he was told he had scored top marks in the country for his computing A-level.
Now Marcus has been invited to a swish awards ceremony in Cardiff to be presented with a cheque for £100.
Marcus, aged 18, said: “I was amazed when I heard I had got the highest mark in the country. I didn’t expect it at all.
“But it was the A-level which I put most effort into, so I’m pleased that all my hard work paid off.”
Marcus, of Radcliffe Road, Bolton, is putting his £100 prize towards buying a new laptop.
He will travel down to St David’s Hotel in Cardiff on Mondayn for the awards ceremony, held by exam board WJEC (Welsh Joint Education Committee).
