BOLTON South-East MP Dr Brian Iddon yesterday branded as “sick” the televising of a man’s assisted suicide.
Viewers watched the final moments of motor neurone sufferer Craig Ewert, aged 59, in Right to Die screened on Sky’s Real Lives, at a Swiss euthanasia clinic yesterday.
Dr Iddon is an ardent opposer of euthanasia and assisted suicide, and sits on the Care not Killing Alliance.
He said: “It is quite sick to televise this. Should we now screen hangings that take place in other countries?
“I am opposed to both euthanasia and assisted suicide. The laws we have in this country protect the vulnerable such as the elderly, and the chronically ill. There have been a number of debates in the House of Commons which I took part in recently and this not the way to debate this issue.”
