FOURTEEN members of Burnden Roadrunners turned out to compete in their final club championship race of the season at Guy’s 10 miler in Garstang on Sunday.
In sunny but icy conditions the Burnden runners finalised their club placings and again demonstrated the growing strength of their women’s section.
With the women’s championship sewn up several weeks ago by Lesley Fisher’s clean sweep of victories, Izzy Hughes clinched second place in the club competition with yet another excellent run in which she finished third in her category.
Anne Ferguson’s fine run secured first in the ladies over-50s group and third place in the club championship.
On the day at Guy’s, Shirley Staveley posted a personal best for the second race running and Kath Page knocked an impressive eight minutes off her previous best time on this course.
Things were tighter in the men’s section with Brian Duffy the eventual and worthy winner after running a strong and controlled race in 1:01:24.
On age-related performance this left Duffy clear and well-deserved champion of the club and his excellent run also earned second place in the veteran over-55s race. Andy Staveley finished runner-up with Andy Duffy in third place.
