AN empty Co-op in Halliwell could be turned into a fish and chip shop if plans are approved.
A businessman wants to operate the takeaway from the former shop in Musgrave Road, which has been vacant for several years and has been badly vandalised.
Councillors on Bolton Council’s planning committee will make a decision tomorrow, having visited the site to see whether a chip shop would fit in with the surrounding residential area.
A petition with 61 signatures objecting to the scheme has been handed to the council. One containing 47 signatures supporting it has also been received.
