ATHERTON LR have a fourth Goldline Trophy final spot in their sights going into Wednesday night's match with Chanock Richard.

Rovers have appeared in the final three times, winning the trophy on each occasion.

The Vodkat NWCL Premier Division outfit also have history on their side in this fixture, having beaten their opponents 2-1 in the group stages.

Danny Smith and Paul Crompton, rested to the bench for Saturday’s 5-2 defeat against Maine Road, have shrugged off minor injuries to make Dave Hughes’ squad.

Charnock Richard have made a good living out of the Goldline Trophy – appearing in each of the last three finals and winning the competition twice.

They are currently seven points clear at the top of the West Lancs League and will present a significant threat, said LR spokesman Tim Lees.

“We played them in the group stages needing to win and score two goals, and did that,” he said.

“But they had already qualified and we know they rested a few players.

“They might be a couple of divisions lower than us, but we won’t be taking them lightly at all.

“We’re really looking forward to the competition, especially with the final being at the Reebok. We can’t win the league, so we’re now aiming to win this.”

Kick-off is scheduled at 7.30pm. To check if the game is still going ahead, contact Andy Whittle on 01204 304006 or check the website www.thegoldlinetrophy.co.uk. A 32-page programme, compiled by both clubs, will be on sale priced at £1.

Next Monday, Stoneclough take on Euxton Villa in the other semi-final, also to be played at Victory Park.
