CHORLEY rugby union’s second string paid Lostock RUFC firsts a compliment by sending a strong team to Woodshaw Park, and the Bolton side had to settle for a hard-fought draw thanks to Warren Clough’s late try.
The visitors took the game to Lostock and attacked the home side’s line for extensive periods in the first half.
Lostock’s defence were forced to work hard to stop them but managed to shut Chorley out.
The breakthrough came against the run of play when, straight from a Lostock scrum, the ball was spun out to the right wing where full-back Chad Boyce joined the line and, using his speed, managed to touched down wide out to make it 5-0. This seemed to give the hosts a belief that they could get something from the game.
Chorley, however, were allowed back into the game from a silly penalty. This put the pressure back on Lostock, and it was not long before that pressure told when the referee awarded a penalty try for a further infringement.
This was converted to put Chorley 10-5 in front.
The clock was ticking down when, from out of nowhere, Chad Boyce made a magnificent run again down the right wing.
He did not quite make the line, but some brilliant back up play was rewarded when Clough put the ball down to draw the scores level.
Chorley continued to pressurise Lostock in search of the victory, but brave Lostock held on for a creditable draw.
