PEOPLE in Bolton are being urged to have the flu jab.
Bolton Primary Care Trust has launched a mini campaign to get more people immunised against the illness.
Jan Hutchinson, director of public health for NHS Bolton, said: “The jabs are free for at-risk groups who should arrange with their GP to have one now, so they can avoid getting this nasty illness.
“Flu jabs are safe — it’s a myth that the vaccine gives people flu.”
Those aged 65 or older, who live in a long-stay residential home or are a carer for the elderly or infirm are entitled to a free flu jab.
Children and adults of any age are also eligible if they have chronic heart, lung, liver or kidney disease; asthma treated by steroids; diabetes requiring medication and diseases of the nervous system, including strokes.
Those with weakened immunity to infection due to disease or treatment, for example those with HIV or who are undergoing cancer treatment, can also get the jab for free.
