At first glance, this appears to be a photograph of a reasonably calm Deansgate on a wet morning in 1968.
However, the road and pavement has been closed off.
The report with the picture said that part of the ceiling of the Aspin Club, housed above the Peter Pell shop, had fallen in during the night and water had leaked through.
Workers went up above to find out what was wrong and found that a heavy parapet stone had become loose. It could have fallen into the club or onto the street at any time.
Luckily the damage on this occasion was confined to a ceiling and carpet, and no one was injured. The stone and surrounding parapet were later repaired.
