A GLOBETROTTING Bolton photographer is sharing the excitement of an eventful trip to Africa by staging a free photographic exhibition.
Brian White realised his childhood dream earlier this year when he spent two months travelling hundreds of miles across rough terrain to Zambia, following in the footsteps of his hero, Victorian explorer David Livingstone.
It was a further chapter in the extensive travelogue of the 48-year-old award-winning lensman from Deane. And on Wednesday (December 10) he opens his first public exhibition at Bolton Parish Church of some of the pictures he took.
In the past couple of years, Mr White has travelled all over the world — from tracing the source of the Mekong River through South-east Asia, to photographing gorillas in Rwanda.
For his latest trip, he met up with another Boltonian, Ian Lomax, who now lives in Cape Town, for the arduous journey by Land Rover — at the end of which Mr White fell and broke his arm badly.
The pictorial results feature the wildlife and landscapes of the Kalahari Desert and the Himba tribes of Namibia, stunning pictures of wildlife on the huge game reserves and national parks of Botswana and atmospheric shots of the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
“I hope people will enjoy seeing the pictures as much as I enjoyed the journey” said Brian, who subsidises his travels by seasonal work as a local wedding photographer.
The exhibition runs until January 17.
