AUSSIE prospect Aaron Mooy might be thousands of miles away from home – but he is loving every minute of life in Bolton.

Former Academy chief Chris Sulley spotted the 18-year-old, who has been tipped as an outstanding prospect by Wanderers’ youth team coaches, three years ago.

He has since bounced back from a serious knee injury to start the last five games for the youth team, and scored against Doncaster Rovers in the FA Youth Cup.

Now the young midfielder has set his sights on earning a professional deal at the Reebok.

“It’s a big year for me and I have got to show the coaches what I have got, so when I got injured, I knew I had to get back as quickly as possible,” he said.

“My rehabilitation involved lots of weight sessions and time on the bike, but I am feeling much sharper now.”

Mooy, now in his third season as a scholar, has scored three goals in as many matches – also figuring briefly for Alan Cork’s reserve team.

He was invited for an assessment by the club after being spotted playing for his school, but also enjoyed spells with Hujduk Wanderers and Northern Spirit back in Oz.

“It was a big decision to move to England but I knew it was a great opportunity,” Mooy explained. “It’s pretty tough not getting the chance to see my family and friends. I go back twice a year – at Christmas and then at the end of the season for a couple of weeks.”
