EXPECTATIONS are being kept firmly in check at Wanderers as they prepare to build on their sensational November form.
Gary Megson’s men will face three of the current top five in the Premier League over the next 20 days, starting with this afternoon’s game against Chelsea at the Reebok.
They climbed to ninth with four wins from five last month – but assistant boss Chris Evans says the Whites will not be getting carried away.
“We are keeping our feet on the ground and recognise it was only a few weeks ago that we weren’t in this position,” he said.
“The club is looking at the long term. We want to quietly go about our business and achieve the best results we can, not crowing about how well we have done.
“On cold days like these we’ll be out there on the training pitch with our sleeves rolled up, grafting, and hopefully earning our right to give a good performance against Chelsea.” Wanderers could be forgiven for wishing today’s game against the Blues was at Stamford Bridge – given that neither side boast the most impressive record on home turf.
The 2-0 victory over Manchester City was only their second win at the Reebok this season but Evans is reading little into past results or trends.
“When you look at your points tally at the end of the season, you never at that stage look to see whether you earned them at home or away,” he said. “We’re looking at the big picture.
We could say we have achieved more points on the road than in the whole of last season, but all we are doing is conjuring up statistics.
“People are asking why we are picking up points at the moment, and it is about self-belief.
“There is a feel-good factor around the club at the moment and that goes right from the staff to the players and the supporters. We need to make sure that continues.”
