LEIGH Genesis are desperate for tomorrow’s Unibond League Challenge Cup at Ashton United goes ahead to ease their fixture backlog headache.
Genesis have gone three weeks without a game and their Lancashire Challenge Trophy with Atherton Collieries at Radcliffe Borough was twice called of this week. The two clubs hope to try again next Tuesday.
Manager Lee Merricks admits his players are desperate to get back into action against Ashton.
“They are champing at the bit,” he said. “It is very disappointing and our fixtures are piling up. It will be a nightmare after Christmas.
“We have new players with Steve Settle returning to the club, while Chris Clement is joining us on loan from Crewe and will boost our midfield.”
Richard Chetcuti, now fit after a long-standing injury has been called up by Malta Under-21s.
