UNDERPRIVILEGED children in Bolton will benefit from a donation to a cycling club.
Health insurance company HealthSure, based in Manchester, has presented £5,000 to Rochdale Cycling Club, which has more than 20 members who come from Bolton.
The specialist cycling club caters for underprivileged children, many of ethnic origin, with physical disabilities and learning difficulties.
There are 21 members from Bolton and 38 from Bury among the 400 children who take part in the group’s activities.
A new rickshaw cycle, which has been needed for more than 12 months, has been bought with the money.
It holds three adults and three children and has a sign at the back warning vehicles to pass with care.
The bike is ideal for disabled youngsters, who can enjoy a ride without pedalling, an experience they might otherwise not have had.
Professor Louis Blank, of the club, said: “To see the smiles on the children’s faces is priceless.
“We are under no illusion that, without donations of this kind, we wouldn’t be able to provide the level of service to the people who need it the most.”
The donation is the first by Healthsure’s new charitable committee’s community fund.
