BOXING: Pool of Life boxers from the Arley Way Gym in Atherton have had a busy past week.
Senior Matthew Scholes took on Orme’s Dave Roberts in an 81kgs showdown at Stoke-on-Trent’s Bidds Club, but felt hard done by when his opponent was judged the winner by majority decision after an action-packed contest.
David Fitzmaurice fared similarly on a show at Penrith, dropping the first round by performing sluggishly against Ambleside’s Reece Barnes. The 17-year-old did much better in the second round and dominated the last, but still lost out on points.
Welterweight James Burke, aged 19, left no room for doubt, outboxing Blackburn’s Farid Hussain and winning by unanimous decision on the same show in his fifth bout in the last three weeks.
