A DOG was rescued by firefighters after being stranded by ice.
The Collie, which is thought to be a stray, was chasing ducks across the frozen lake at Firs Park in Leigh this morning He managed to get onto an island in the middle of the water, but was then stranded after the ice around it started to melt.
Fire crews attended at around 9am and two firefighters used a special board to get across the ice and rescue the dog.
The RSPCA are caring for the animal.
